A New Era for the Razr
In April 2025, Motorola significantly shifted its mobile strategy by unveiling a three-tiered foldable lineup. While the base Razr and the mid-range Razr+ continue the legacy of the brand's popular flip-style devices, the introduction of the all-new Razr Ultra marks a pivotal moment for the company. For the first time, Motorola has positioned a device in this form factor as a true, no-compromise flagship.
Flagship Performance Meets Foldable Design
The Razr Ultra is not just another flip phone; it is a powerhouse designed to compete with the most capable slab-style flagships on the market.
The Razr Ultra distinguishes itself with top-tier specifications, including the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and 16GB of RAM, ensuring it remains at the cutting edge of mobile performance. Motorola has also prioritized durability, introducing a new titanium hinge mechanism across the 2025 family that the company claims is four times stronger than previous iterations. Beyond the raw power, the Ultra features a sophisticated triple-camera system, a rarity in the compact foldable space, and faster 68-watt charging capabilities.
The AI Integration
Across the entire 2025 family, Motorola has leaned heavily into artificial intelligence. The devices come equipped with "Moto AI," featuring tools like "Catch Me Up" and "Remember This," alongside preloaded support for Microsoft Copilot. This software suite is designed to make the external cover screen more functional, allowing users to manage tasks and notifications without needing to unfold the device.
A Note on the QWERTY Experience
While these new Razr devices are marvels of modern engineering and display technology, they lack the tactile satisfaction of a physical keyboard. For those of us who still crave the precision and speed of a dedicated QWERTY layout, the glass-and-touch interface of a foldable remains a different experience entirely. While the Razr's hinge provides a satisfying physical "snap" reminiscent of the classic era, it cannot replicate the mechanical feedback of a true keyboard device.
