Clicks Launches the MagSafe Power Keyboard: Tactile Keys for the Modern Glass Slate

We ♥ BlackBerry Newsroom·September 9, 2026

For years, those of us carrying the torch for physical smartphone keyboards have watched modern mobile tech turn into an endless sea of identical glass slabs. Clicks Technology originally met this frustration head-on with form-fitting QWERTY cases for iPhones and select foldables. Now, as reported by AppleInsider, the company has pivoted toward a universal solution: the Clicks Power Keyboard, a detachable magnetic typing companion aimed straight at mainstream full-screen smartphones.

Magnetic Simplicity Meets Physical QWERTY

Rather than encasing an entire phone inside a rigid frame, the Power Keyboard latches onto the rear of modern iPhones and Android devices using native MagSafe or Qi2 magnetic arrays. As covered by Digital Trends, the accessory connects over Bluetooth and slides out into typing position, allowing users to tap out emails and messages in both portrait and landscape orientations without surrendering half of their screen to a virtual keyboard.

Input is handled by a 47-key deck sporting sculpted, tactile keys, dedicated directional controls, a top number row, and custom shortcut commands. The device also integrates a 2,150 mAh rechargeable power bank, functioning as a portable backup battery that can wirelessly pass energy directly to your phone while you work.

“Carrying a power bank has become second nature, but most are single-purpose accessories,” noted Clicks co-founder Michael Fisher. “Power Keyboard earns its place by doing something more fundamental, making it easier to interact with the devices you already rely on.”

The Trade-Offs of Modular Typing

Of course, bolting physical buttons to a modern smartphone introduces compromise. A hands-on analysis from TechCrunch notes that at 15.2mm thick and roughly 180 grams, the Power Keyboard introduces notable heft, making single-handed pocket carry significantly bulkier compared to a bare device. Yet, unlike fixed cases locked to a specific handset chassis, this magnetic layout can detach in seconds and multi-pair across tablets, spatial headsets, and smart TVs.

The Bridge to Pure QWERTY

As clever as the Power Keyboard is, seasoned thumb-typers know a detachable accessory cannot quite replicate the seamless harmony of an integrated keyboard device. True dedicated hardware—from the classic BlackBerry Bold and Passport to purpose-built modern smartphones—benefits from tailored center-of-gravity ergonomics, unified chassis weight, and software deeply woven around hardware shortcuts. Still, for owners of ordinary glass slabs seeking tangible feedback without retiring their daily drivers, the Power Keyboard serves as an enticing gateway back to the tactile world.
