A New Chapter for Tactile Typing
For those of us who have spent the last decade mourning the loss of the physical keyboard, CES 2026 brought a long-awaited glimmer of hope. Clicks Technology, the brand that previously captured our attention with their clever snap-on keyboard cases for iPhones, has officially pivoted to hardware manufacturing with the launch of the Clicks Communicator. This isn't just another accessory; it is a standalone Android 16 smartphone built from the ground up for those who prioritize communication over consumption.
Designed for Doing, Not Doomscrolling
The philosophy behind the Communicator is refreshingly simple: minimize digital distraction. In an era dominated by massive, glass-slab devices optimized for endless social media feeds, the Communicator stands out with its compact form factor and integrated QWERTY keyboard. The device features keys that are 30 percent larger than those found on the company's earlier keyboard cases, and the entire keyboard assembly is touch-sensitive, allowing it to function as a trackpad for navigating the interface without obscuring the screen.
The Clicks Communicator is an unapologetic throwback designed for doing, not doomscrolling.
Beyond the keyboard, the device includes thoughtful hardware touches that have largely vanished from the modern market, such as a dedicated headphone jack, a physical mute switch, and expandable storage via microSD. Priced at $499 for the launch window, the device is positioned as a serious tool for professionals and enthusiasts who want to reclaim their focus. It runs a full version of Android 16, ensuring compatibility with modern apps, while utilizing a minimalist launcher to keep the user experience streamlined and intentional.
A True Successor to the QWERTY Legacy
While the Communicator is a modern Android device, its soul is undeniably rooted in the legacy of classic QWERTY handsets. It captures the specific, satisfying click-and-feel that defined the golden age of mobile messaging. By offering a dedicated, distraction-free environment, it serves as a perfect companion for those who find the current generation of touch-only smartphones to be an impediment to productivity rather than an aid.
